Bob FurbeeBob Furbee was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, May 24, 1950. He received a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1972, a bachelor's degree in animal science in 1977, and a master's degree in journalism in 1979, all from Ohio State University. From 1972-75, he served as a Romanian linguist in the Army Security Agency at the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, Maryland.

In 1979, he became the public relations coordinator for the American Society of Agronomy in Madison, Wisconsin. From 1980-81, Furbee was agricultural extension editor at the University of Kentucky. In 1981, he became an assistant professor at Ohio State University in Columbus, serving as the coordinator of the agricultural journalism program and as extension communications specialist. In 1986, he moved to the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster when he became associate head of the information and applied communications section at Ohio State. In 1992, he moved to Kansas State University, where he was head of the department of communications. He is currently the director of communication and technology at Ohio State University.

In ACE, he served as north central region director from 1992 to 1994, and was Ohio's state representative from 1980 to 1983, and from 1985 to 1992. Other ACE assignments include Teaching-Training Committee chair in 1983, and Membership Committee chair in 1996. In 1984, he received the ACE Pioneer Award, and in 1996, the ACE Service Award.

In addition to ACE, he is an active member of the Alpha Rho Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi and Gamma Sigma Delta.
