Millard AtwoodMillard Atwood was born in Groton, New York, August 6, 1886. He graduated from Cornell in 1910, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He later joined the Gannett Newspaper family and became managing editor of the Utica Observer-Dispatch. From Utica, he went to Rochester, New York, to become managing editor of the Times-Union, and was later named associate editor for all Gannett papers.

He was secretary of the New York State Society of Newspaper Editors, and of the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE). He was slated to become president of ASNE when he was taken ill.

For several years, he was with the extension service at Cornell University. It was during these years that he served AAACE as its president.

He died in Rochester, November 3, 1941, at the age of 55.
